Crouch Bowling Club, Seaford played host to Seaford Town Council Staff in their annual bowls match on Tuesday evening 13th August. The weather stayed fine and really fun evening was enjoyed. The teams were mixed and some very good games were played, followed by a fish and chip supper in the clubhouse. Councillor Nazish Adil, the first British Asian female Mayor of Seaford, captained the Council team and drew the raffle during the evening.
SEMI FINALS - MATCH OF THE DAY - Tuesday 21st August
I called in at The Crouch to see how the Semi Finals were going, there was already our regular supporters lined up in front of the Clubhouse.
I sat down to watch Steve Ireland and Keith Norman playing Bob Straw and Terry Mottram, it was the eleventh end and the score was 14-6 to Steve and Keith. It looked like it may be a pretty comfortable win, but bowls is not that straight forward. Bob and Terry struck with a 3 woods win, 14-9 they proceeded to win the next 7 ends to take the lead and in the 20th end they were in the lead 20-18. One more safe end and they were through. But Steve and Keith would not be beaten they bowled some incredible woods to take 3 shots and take the win 21-20. Terry and Bob were really disappointed, but congratulated the winners and they were all agreed it was a memorable semi-final.
Another sunny day at the Crouch - Seaford 60 Crouch 90

Many thanks to the Ladies Vi, Ann, Marina, Pat and Pat and many more of he committees. The men Mike (Birthday Boy, again) controlled the Barbie which was also pretty good this year not many burnt bits. Quite a few bottles of red wine appeared to be consumed by the Chef's in the afternoon but every one appeared to enjoy the day.
WALNUTS COME OUT ON TOP
A tense Friday morning League match ended up with the Walnut Team winning by 10 shots, the match got pretty mean with the Pink wood Mike insisting they were Fire Red but they weren't firing well enough today?

Churchdown BC (Touring) Match
Friday May 24th 2019
Churchdown Bowling Club has sixty-five bowling members and can be found right in the heart of the lovely village of Churchdown, midway between the historic city of Gloucester and the spa town of Cheltenham, on the edge of the Cotswolds. Most of the members must have come to E. Sussex for the 4 day Tour to Eastbourne with fixtures against Seaford Crouch BC on Friday, Saturday at Eastbourne BC, Sunday it was Peacehaven BC and on the Monday they travelled up to Three Mile Cross BC which is near Reading. With seven rinks full it was a high scoring match with Churchdown coming out on top with 149 to Seaford's 137, a close fought match.
Wednesday, May 22nd
Another sunny day out at the seaside. This time Eastbourne welcomed us at The Saffrons. Sadly the Bowls was not as spectacular as the backdrop to their greens. We lost, badly!
Monday May 13th
A pleasant sunny trip to Sidley on Monday saw The Crouch scrape home home to win by 4. An excellent green, clubhouse and hospitality.
Derek and Colin in the dark.
The penultimate end where the opposition drew level forcing extra time. Derek and Colin managed to win the deciding end.

Pat our Ladies Captain and Flyle Hussain, were caught red handed last week. Local police officers were patrolling the town and The Crouch recently.
Pat invited them in to see the clubhouse. I think a cup of tea and biscuit were used. Good to see the police on patrol in Seaford.

CROUCH BOWLING CLUB SEAFORD OPEN DAY
SATURDAY, APRIL 13th 2019
At last the seaason Open Day and the start of the 2019 Bowling Season has arrived. Unfortunatey the weather was not at its warmest but a good turn out by members welcomed many locals who came to try out the game and take a look at our incredible new Clubhouse. With a cold wind blowing the Clubhouse was used quite a lot with tea and cakes selling well.

The Green is starting to look stunning especially in the Bright sunshine recently, Burleys were out in force preparing the green for the summer. Today Monday the green was verticut. Verticutting Is vertical mowing and the objectives are: To prune the grasses to improve tillering and stolon formation. This increases turf density and is very important for all fine competition turf such as bowling and golf greens.
The committees are working hard to get all the competitions and fixtures arranged for 2019.
Meanwhile the Short Mat games in the clubhouse are proving very popular especially the Wednesday evening game. If you haven't tried it yet, why not put your name down.
Burley's are working hard on the green and it is beginning to look good for the new season.

CLASS TEAM WIN END OF SEASON DRIVE
Another great sunny afternoon for the End of Season Drive on Saturday 29th September. A good entry entry for this year's final drive filled all six rinks. No time for tea breaks this week as there was the Annual Fish and Chip Supper to close the Season for another year. By 5 o/clock everyone was very hungry and very very thirsty. Mike did a roaring trade in the bar with his happy helpers, a big thanks to Mike and his team for running that part of the Club and especially the Ladies that do so much to keep us on the straight and narrow each week, you know who you are. The Winning team with +17 I believe, was Yvonne, Alex, Myself Dennis, and Brenda, what a result. I waited all year to get close, and it proved to be worth the effort. Prize money will go towards a new white Waterproof that disappeared from the changing room after the match. If any one finds they have two one of them is probably mine?
